First Skate

One of Mr. Mittens latest projects has been making an ice skating rink in our backyard. We've had so much snow this year, it's been quite a job clearing it and flooding the ice surface. If you didn't know (like me) water is added gradually and repeatedly as ice forms and builds up layer by layer.
It took a while but Daddy had such good helpers!
The boys received skates for Christmas and tried them out for the first time! The Bug was disappointed because he kept falling down, but they both did a really great job. I'm not much of a skater, but Daddy is a pro.

We were lucky to have Big K over to play hockey.
When the boys got tired of 'skating' (sitting on chairs?) they put boots on and chased pucks in the snow drifts. We almost lost them! (kids and pucks)

And yes, you can go down the slide right onto the ice. I think we need a bulls eye on the fence. Human curling anyone?

Got skates? Come on over!

I really had nothing to do with any of this. And yes, Mr. M is super handy.
And I have no intention of spending my life in a hockey rink. Oh sure it sounds like fun...freezing my butt off at 5am...no way man =p

How fun! We don't even own skates at our house - not very Canadian of us...

You could come over and slide. It's pretty darn funny!

And I have nothing against hockey in general...go Flames!

As you know hockey is important to someone in our house, hence the Oilers pics, BUT there will be no hockey mom up at the rink for 6am & 6yr olds. No WAY!!
For the record...it's our Bup who's pretty good with the stick too! W just wants to trip & fall.

I love your blog. This one in particular brings such sentimental memories back. We always had a "skating rink" in our back yard, in the alley and even in the streets. I learned to skate pushing a stool around the ice. Wonderful memories and such a great childhood. Although...I'm glad I don't have to deal with the snow as an adult. Much to lazy. We had about 8-10 inches of snow just before Christmas and it lasted a week. Plenty long enough for me. Keep up the great work on your blog. Love it so much
